It is the mission, duty and purpose of Auto Repair Transformation (A.R.T.) to close the equity gap for drivers and workers in the automotive repair industry by removing barriers to access in auto repair, inspiring marginalized people to enter and thrive in the industry, and advocating for equitable environments.
Our Automotive Apprenticeship Program opens doors to an industry that has historically excluded women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and low-income communities. By creating a paid, debt-free pathway into stable, well-compensated careers and partnering with shops committed to safe, inclusive workplaces, we’re dismantling the toxic culture that has kept so many talented people out. Welcoming diverse perspectives and lived experiences doesn’t just close the equity gap, it strengthens the entire automotive workforce, ensuring its growth, sustainability, and innovation.
Our Community Workshops put automotive knowledge back in the hands of the people. These hands-on sessions break down barriers to an industry that often feels out of reach. Participants gain the skills to understand their vehicles, make informed decisions, save money, stay safe, and confidently tackle basic repairs, empowering drivers and strengthening community connections through shared learning.
Lights Out on Racism is a proactive road safety and equity initiative that offers free safety inspections, exterior light checks, and repairs for safety equipment, including bulb replacements, for BIPOC and low-income community members. By addressing minor issues that can lead to unnecessary traffic stops, we help keep drivers safe and reduce the risk of discriminatory policing. This program not only improves road safety for everyone, it removes financial barriers and affirms that every driver deserves to travel without fear.
Our Low Income Auto Repair Assistance Program exists to make critical car repair more accessible for low-income people – especially BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, & houseless individuals. A reliable and safe vehicle is key for maintaining one’s livelihood, accessing medical appointments, and so much more. We see reliable transportation as a key to economic justice and reimagine mobility as a fundamental right, not a privilege.
